Rockpool Publishing sent over this amazing book by Lee Holmes! She wrote a guide for Covid long haulers to provide tools to recover and bounce back from relapses quickly, and she provides a road map to help get you back to enjoying life after Long Covid. She includes practical day-by-day tips, techniques, and recipes to deliver long-term positive results as a qualified clinical nutritionist. This is a protocol that she used to overcome her battles with Long Covid herself after contracting Covid-19 in late 2022.

This guide offers a holistic approach to Long Covid that will help improve symptoms, address the root cause of any lingering issues, and help improve your overall health and wellness in all aspects. She includes delicious simple to make recipes and an easy to follow meal plan along with a list of low histamine foods that she thinks is the key to bouncing back and recovering quicker from Long Covid. She also includes a monthly symptom tracker, a weekly self-care checklist, and a pacing diary to help you manage your self care, energy levels, mood, and recovery and help to record your improvements with time.

“By arming yourself with information, you can develop realistic expectations and navigate your recovery journey more confidently.”

I found that reading this guide helps me have confidence that if I ever contract Covid that I will know the steps to take to find my way back to my level of health pre-disease. I believe the universe always provides the resources we need at the right time and when this book crossed my path, I knew it was a sign to start making a plan for how to combat this if it ever happens. I’ve fought my way back to health from severe pancreatitis 9 years ago, so I know it’s possible to help my body heal itself. Books/guides like this give me the confidence that my body can improve with the right mindset, tools, and food. I’m grateful to now have a plan in place just in case. And the tips in the guide can help improve wellness in general (not just with covid).

Taking care of yourself becomes top priority and may require pacing yourself, dividing tasks into smaller manageable chunks, working your way up for duration. This will help you manage your symptoms more effectively. “Identify your energy limits so you can prioritize your daily tasks. And be gentle and kind with yourself” as you rejuvenate your energy stores. Pacing yourself could prevent a flare up too or at least reduce the severity and frequency of setbacks and flare ups.

Holmes suggests activities that promote relaxation like meditation, yoga, progressive muscle relaxation, deep breathing, vagus nerve stimulation, etc.

As we’ve talked a lot about on my podcast, Healing Thru Tarot, finding ways to reduce stress can improve not just your emotional and mental wellbeing but your overall physical health and wellness. Stress reduces your immune system, so rest, reducing stress, and pacing yourself will naturally boost your immune system. And make sure to get sleep because it’s so important when it comes to immunity.

As I’m learning more and more, rest is so important to maintaining our health. I’m such a productive focused person that this is a hard one for me, but after my bout with pancreatitis and taking years to heal from that I’m realizing that rest is what our body needs most when healing itself—that and a belief that the body is capable of healing.

Lee says when healing she had to fully embrace the art of letting go and found comfort and progress in mindfulness, slow deliberate walks in nature, reading, listening to music, meditating and “letting my imagination transport me to different realms. Mindfulness became my secret weapon, unlocking the confidence and resilience needed to face each moment of the journey, one step at a time.”

“There’s more to life than our illness.”

She challenges us to find gratitude, humor, and the little delights and comforts in life to help carry us through the hard times.

“One vital aspect of the recovery process is acceptance. Acceptance means embracing the reality of your situation without judgment or resistance. Long Covid may require a slow recovery and setbacks might occur, but accepting challenges will empower you to better manage your symptoms and work towards regarding your health.”

“Be gentle with yourself when setbacks occur.” Lee says what I say all the time–that healing isn’t linear. “Be grateful for each moment of progress, no matter how small.”

Book Blurb for Book 1: The Call of the Cards

Alexandra Steele, a clinical psychologist, stumbles upon a mystical store in downtown, Memphis, TN, where she encounters tarot cards for the first time. She doesn't realize it at the time, but this simple encounter will leave her life forever changed as she uncovers a world of past life connections to the cards and the craft of divination. This sparks an awakening that opens door after door of a long line of mystic and witch incarnations that run throughout her history. As she reconnects to these deep mystical ties, she begins to learn about her destiny, which is revealed as she starts to encounter coven sisters and foes from previous incarnations. Will her tendency to hide in the shadows and play small continue to hold her back or will the call of the cards lure her onto her destined path of a life full of magic and sisterhood?
