Seasons of the Witch: Ostara Oracle Deck Review (the last one in this oracle series)

Rockpool Publishing sent over the Seasons of the Witch: Ostara Oracle for me to review and share with you. I’m excited because I don’t have many spring decks, and this is the second spring oracle put out in this series. The other was Beltane. This one is soothing and calming with a light peachy color card back with iridescent silvery foil edging.
Ostara celebrates the spring equinox and marks the end of a journey and brings in renewal and new beginnings.
This holiday is normally held at the time of the vernal equinox; that is between March 19-22 in the Northern Hemisphere. This marks the first day of spring, with the light triumphing over the darkness as the days become longer. With the warming of temperatures, the earth begins waking up from its winter slumber. Plants and flowers begin to sprout and animals come out of hibernation after a long winter. This holiday is the second of three spring celebrations (the midpoint between Imbolc and Beltane), during which light and darkness are again in balance, with light on the rise.
Ostara brings the gift of rebirth: letting go of the old and welcoming the new.
Ostara celebrates the return of Spring, and the word Ostara comes from the Anglo-Saxon goddess, Eostre. Eostre represents new beginnings. Thus, Ostara symbolizes balance, rebirth, renewal, and fertility, which is one of the reasons that rabbits and hares are often associated with Ostara/Spring. This time of year marks the beginning of the agricultural cycle, therefore, farmers begin to plant seeds for the season. Ostara is celebrated by the coloring and decorating of eggs, planting of seeds, and performing rituals that honor the balance of light and dark. The symbols of Ostara are spring flowers, butterflies, rabbits/hares and eggs, and the colors most associated with spring and Ostara are pastels (orange, lavender, yellow, cream and green). Lovely color palatte here in this deck that reflects these themes and that I find really calming.
Given these themes, Ostara reminds us to strive for balance in our lives. It’s an ideal time to start a new project that you’ve been contemplating, spending time with nature, taking walks outside, enjoying the warmth of the sun, honoring the light that sustains life, or tackling your spring cleaning.
The creators of this oracle say, this Ostara oracle deck is “an opportunity to step fearlessly onto a new path. A time of second chances and restoring hope, surrendering to the powerful version of yourself you are becoming. Seasons of the Witch – Ostara Oracle is here to guide you through your journey of rebirth, for no ending is truly the end but rather a portal, initiating you into the next cycle of your spiritual evolution. We have infused it with the intention of resetting your spirit after a long period of rest and introspection during your spiritual winter. This deck is here to help you close one door and eagerly walk through another.”
This Ostara Oracle deck has 44 cards that the creators say they hope will inspire us when planting seeds that will eventually blossom and flourish.
“It’s a beautifully illustrated oracle that will help you to transcend even the darkest, longest winters of your soul.”
There’s always an element heavily featured in each of these oracles in the Seasons of the Witch Oracle Series that can be found throughout all the cards. For the Ostara oracle, they chose an easter egg, which symbolizes the rebirth and realignment process and closes the circle as this amazing oracle deck series comes full circle. This is the last of the 8 oracles – one dedicated to each sabbat on the Wheel of the Year.
Here, we see cards like Spring Cleaning, Composting, Germination, Floromancy, Painted Eggs, Creating Altars, Hare, Lamb, Eggshell Pots just to name a few.
Ostara themes and areas of focus include:
Alignment
Balance
Blessings/Gratitude
Cleansing
Growth
Harmony
New Beginnings
Patience
Planting Seeds
Rebirth
Renewal/Rejuvenation
Strength
Of course, you can use this deck during Ostara season, but really you can pull it out whenever these themes call to you. Below are other times you could work with this deck outside of Ostara.
Natural times to work with this deck include:
During your solar revolution (your birthday)
When inspiration strikes for a new project/idea
When seeking purity or spirit or reconnecting with your innocence
For establishing a practice of self-care and peace
To replenish or rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit
When seeking spiritual support and guidance
If you wish to reconnect with the intention of beauty, softness and gentle energy.
& In times of rebirth
Along with card meanings in the guidebook, you may find recipes and rituals that go along with this sabbat like a recipe for a blessing simmer pot, an energy cleansing spell, an abre camino opening pathways floor wash, a fire reclamation earth ritual, abundance ritual, and a sowing intentions practice and more. That’s what makes this deck so unique and versatile. I love how they’ve put so much thought into finding ways to help us infuse magic and ritual into our daily lives.
There are many ways you can work with these cards. You could use them for a daily 2 or 3 card spread. Or just pull 1 card a day to assess where you currently are and to hear the message you most need to hear that day. You could pick out a card and display it in your home or office or carry it with you for the day to usher in that energy or to use it for manifesting something you desire. These cards are also perfect to display on altars during the season of Ostara or in spellwork.
On the card image, they offer a poetic mini message that captures the energy and themes of the seasonal artwork. This allows readers the option to read intuitively if they prefer. They also provide a more detailed message in the guidebook for others who want to dig further into the message this card conveys.
I read both ways depending on what type of spread I’m pulling at that moment. These are great for quick spreads if I don’t have a lot of time but also if I want to dive deeper into the meanings of this season I can opt to spend a lot of time learning about each card and each tradition associated with this time of year. I’m learning so much about all the different sabbats on the Wheel of the Year and the more I learn, the more in tune I feel with the changing of the seasons. I love that these oracles in this Season of the Witch series allow for both ways of reading, giving readers more options. Every reader approaches their divinatory practice uniquely so the more flexible the cards are, the easier it is for us to integrate them into our daily routines.
Ostara Spreads
With each installment of the Seasons of the Witch Oracle Series, the creators have provided some custom spreads to help us get the most out of these cards by tapping into the themes that each deck focuses on. For the Ostara oracle, they offer us 7 custom spreads including the Eostre Cross, The Spring Equinox Spread, Spring Cleaning Spread, Aries Spread, Composting Spread, Jasmine Moon Spread, and the Second Chance Spread.
These spreads allow us to explore these themes further and show us how we can work with the natural energy of this season. I love seasonal work as it allows us to rotate the areas of our life and self-care that we put our focus on, keeping our healing practice fresh and always moving us forward to a more whole version of ourselves.
I highly recommend this deck if you need a spring themed deck or are just wanting to work on rejuvenating a weary spirit after a harsh dark night of the soul. This calming, assuring and supportive deck can help to nurture you back on a healing path.

This is the last installment in this 8 deck oracle series, and this is hands down my favorite oracle series out there that I’ve worked with. I LOVE rotating my decks seasonally and shifting my healing focus with the Wheel of the Year. It keeps my healing work and divinatory practice fresh and exciting and allows me to tackle healing in multiple areas of my life. And I'm learning so much about each sabbat and how to implement all these rituals into my life that are associated with each sabbat as we move through the Wheel of the Year.

Book Blurb for Book 1: The Call of the Cards
Alexandra Steele, a clinical psychologist, stumbles upon a mystical store in downtown, Memphis, TN, where she encounters tarot cards for the first time. She doesn't realize it at the time, but this simple encounter will leave her life forever changed as she uncovers a world of past life connections to the cards and the craft of divination. This sparks an awakening that opens door after door of a long line of mystic and witch incarnations that run throughout her history. As she reconnects to these deep mystical ties, she begins to learn about her destiny, which is revealed as she starts to encounter coven sisters and foes from previous incarnations. Will her tendency to hide in the shadows and play small continue to hold her back or will the call of the cards lure her onto her destined path of a life full of magic and sisterhood?
