Rockpool Publishing sent over the Seasons of the Witch: Lammas Oracle for me to review and share with you. I’m SO excited for this one because I don’t have a lot of summer decks, and this is the second summer oracle put out in this series, and it’s gorgeous with beautiful, bountiful green card backs with sunflowers and sparkling green foil edging. Such a sunny, bright deck!
Lammas is the first of three harvest Sabbats (Lammas, Mabon and Samhain) and celebrates the crops of late summer and early autumn. This is a day to celebrate the beginnings of the harvest when the grain and corn is gathered. It’s the time of year when predictions can be made about the abundance of the upcoming harvest based on the visible signs of the fruits already growing on the vines. In the case of an abundant crop that was promising, there would be much celebrating for the blessings about to be bestowed upon them.
If on the other hand, the harvest looked to be less promising, plans turned to storing up stocks to get through the winter months. During the week of Lammas, it is a time to reflect, have gratitude, and give back to the land which provides us shelter and sustenance.
This Lammas Oracle deck has 44 cards that the creators say they hope will inspire us to “nourish our dreams and use the invocations and practices in the guidebook to connect more deeply with the energy of Lammas.” The creators say that Lammas is the energy of “the boss witch.” And that “this deck will guide you to believe in yourself and have the courage to chase your desires. These cards were created to support us in becoming the CEO of our lives.”
With a color palette of reds, yellows, browns, oranges and greens, we are instantly connected to the earthy tones of harvest, garden beds, orchards teeming with produce, and markets full of fruits and vegetables.
There’s always an element heavily featured in each of these oracles in the Seasons of the Witch Series that can be found throughout all the cards. For the Lammas oracle, they chose sunflowers to represent success, showing us that there are many paths to success, which starts with feeling worthy of that success and feeling confident enough to step into our power and courage. They encourage us to stand tall like the sunflowers do, reaching for the light while also sharing our light and gifts that we uniquely possess. This deck just oozes positivity and gives us a gentle nudge to stand in our power. Just what I needed!
Here, we see summery and abundant cards like Cornucopia, Collecting Seeds, Garden Tools, Bushels of Apples, Country Fair, Farm to Table, Harvest Basket, Iced tea, Sunflower, Hilltops, Fennel, Coneflower, Grapevines, Corndollies, Rooster and hens, and Coming of Fall, just to name a few.
Of course, you can use this deck during Lammas season, but really you can pull it out whenever these themes call to you. This deck was created to support us in learning how to receive and express gratitude. Below are other times you could work with this deck outside of Lammas.
Along with card meanings you will find recipes for a belonging essential oil blend, a protection simmer pot, a citrine manifesting spell, as well as a protection bath ritual, a facing the weeds within meditative spell, an exercise to invite your truth forward, meditations to embrace your inner light and much more. That’s what makes this deck so unique and versatile. I love how they’ve put so much thought into finding ways to help us infuse magic and ritual into our daily lives.
There are many ways you can work with these cards. You could use them for a daily 2 or 3 card spread. Or just pull 1 card a day to assess where you currently are and to hear the message you most need to hear that day. You could pick out a card and display it in your home or office or carry it with you for the day to usher in that energy or to use it for manifesting something you desire. These cards are also perfect to display on altars during the season of Lammas or in spellwork.
On the card image, they offer a poetic mini message that captures the energy and themes of the seasonal artwork. This allows readers the option to read intuitively if they prefer. They also provide a more detailed message in the guidebook for others who want to dig further into the message this card conveys. I read both ways depending on what type of spread I’m pulling at that moment. These are great for quick spreads if I don’t have a lot of time but also if I want to dive deeper into the meanings of this season I can opt to spend a lot of time learning about each card and each tradition associated with this time of year. I’m learning so much about all the different sabbats on the Wheel of the Year and the more I learn, the more in tune I feel with the changing of the seasons. I love that these oracles in this Season of the Witch series allow for both ways of reading, giving readers more options. Every reader approaches their divinatory practice uniquely so the more flexible the cards are, the easier it is for us to integrate them into our daily routines.
With each installment of the Seasons of the Witch oracle series, the creators have provided some custom spreads to help us get the most out of these cards by tapping into the themes that each deck focuses on. For the Lammas oracle, they offer us 8 custom spreads including the Sunflower Cross Spread, Birdfeeder Spread, Garden Tools Spread, Hilltops Spread, Prayers to the Earth Spread, Vegetable Garden Spread, and Weeds for Finding and Healing Wounds Spread.
These spreads allow us to explore these themes further and show us how we can work with the natural energy of this season. I love seasonal work as it allows us to rotate the areas of our life and self-care that we put our focus on, keeping our healing practice fresh and always moving us forward to a more whole version of ourselves.
I threw the Vegetable Garden Spread (photo above) to assess my goals and progress on my current writing project. I’d like to share this spread interpretation with you below:
What parts of your goals are working? Citrine – Reaching for the light within me is working for this project I’m working on (writing the first prequel to The Divining Sisters Series). It’s leading to more confidence, empowerment, and a more positive outlook, which is helping me unleash my potential. More doors and opportunities are opening up to me now that I’m leaning into my authentic power, gifts, and abilities. Finishing and releasing book 4 in the series and completing that story arc in the modern day timeline has given me confidence in my writing endeavors because I’ve seen it to completion. There’s a freedom that comes with writing this prequel knowing I successfully finished the storyline for my characters in the main part of the series.
Where do you need to make some adjustments? Tiger’s Eye – Overcoming my fears of moving forward on this project and speaking my truth and continuing to tell my healing story through this book series will change my luck. The string of bad luck I’ve fallen into health-wise could change by continuing on this healing journey. I’m not letting these health issues derail me. I’m sticking to a writing plan and pushing through the fear and the physical discomfort because this new writing path is extremely important to me. This card suggests I’m evolving into a different version of myself if I’m willing to walk this new path and not let these obstacles push me off track.
What is an occurring problem or pest that is preventing you from experiencing success? Fruit Trees – I could be missing out on things that are right in front of me by focusing on things that don’t really matter. This card assures me that everything is as it should be. I do have a tendency to get lost in the details, obsess about perfection, and worry about what could go wrong along the way, but this card says I’m experiencing what is meant for me at the right place and time and to just trust the process.
What distractions are preventing you from being more successful? Poetry – ah – the throat chakra! I do have chronically closed throat chakra. Every healer I’ve ever worked with pinpoints this immediately. And every time we unblock it, it closes back up again. Ugh! I’m pretty sure one of my main goals in this life is to push through this fear of using my voice and learn to speak loudly and often. Starting the podcast in 2020 and creating this book series around the same time has immensely helped me work on this issue, but it still can be a struggle. And with writing, I do agonize over the right words to use to express the journey I’ve been on. This card is urging me to keep pushing through those struggles and to lean into self-expression. Giving a voice to my experience is so important for my healing journey and using my words and my story to uplift others is definitely on my life path. This card encourages me to use my words for good and to stop using my words to criticize myself. How we speak to ourselves matters more than we could ever know.
I highly recommend this deck if you need a vibrant, sunny deck for the summer months or are just wanting to feel more empowered and needing a little help with leveling up to the next phase in your life. These cards will infuse you with the confidence to take that leap to become all that you can be! Thanks to Rockpool for sending this Lammas Oracle!
